The revival of the Water Troops which began with a thunderous war declaration, has ended with a mere whisper. Just one week after returning to the CPA scene, the army has officially closed its doors after surrendering the Wet Tactics war to SWAT.

Founding Ripple

The Water Troops were first founded in 2009 by Keano73. Over their history, they have cycled through a total of 13 generations. Most notably, during their third generation, they came together and merged with the Masked Vikings to form the well-known Water Vikings.

October of 2020 saw the 13th, and what was thought to be the last generation of the Water Troops. Under TD999 and Lukey’s leadership, the final wave of activity lasted until December of that year.

Returning Waves

The Water Troops officially revived on September 30th under a leadership consisting of Raven, Revan, Miffy, and Hydro21. Their opening event saw a total of 6 troops in attendance.

Mere hours after registering, they shocked the community by declaring war on SWAT, initiating the Wet Tactics War, with their leadership stating their aggressive goal: to clear the community of an army they felt was long overdue for closure.

The Water Troops recorded a 6–0-0 war score. In all six battles, SWAT failed to meet the required size of 5 troops to continue the battle past the first room, effectively conceding each battle. The war was an undeniable rout, a 6–0 victory for the Water Troops. Yet, in a move that shocked both SWAT and the community, the WT leadership had a completely different endgame.

Wet Tactics Surrender

Despite achieving a decisive 6–0-0 war score against an immobile SWAT,  the Water Troops unexpectedly forfeited the war. WT leader Raven defended the move, declaring that they’re message to the community had been sent.

Many questioned why an army would surrender after such tactical dominance, yet the answer is clear: The war was a final, strategic showcase. The Water Troops’ goal, according to Raven, was to make a statement about SWAT, that they believe the army is no longer functional. Having achieved that in their own right, they chose to forfeit their win to SWAT, while saluting the SWAT leadership for their dedication and good sportsmanship.

Receding Tides

Just one week after returning to the CPA scene, the army has officially closed its doors, on October 7th. The shutdown reveals the true intent of the conflict. The war was never about displaying dominance; it was a planned demonstration designed to prove their point against SWAT. By surrendering while holding a perfect score and then immediately shutting down, the Water Troops ensured their legacy is not one of a defeated army, but of one that accomplished its goal and exited the stage on its own, highly dramatic terms.

Water Troops official shutdown announcement

To find out more about Water Troop’s unexpected surrender and shut down, Club Penguin Armies League reached out to WT leader Bryce for an interview.

WT’s war post stated that the war’s purpose was to bring to light that SWAT was no longer a functional army. Do you believe you have accomplished this goal?

First off, I believe we achieved our goals. We wanted to show that some armies need to know when to quit. Swat couldn’t meet the minimum troop requirement in a single battle. That is absolutely pathetic for an army that should be one of the greats.

Do you think we will ever see another generation of WT in the future? What plans does the former WT leadership have moving forwards?

We will definitely be back soon. WT consists entirely of old WV vets. With the recent departure of Rye we felt it was more important to help be in these trying times than beat up an army that maxes 1. We will be back when our home army is in a more stable place.

Any final message to the community?

My final message to the community is to quit armies and play shivcraft instead

Evidently, the return of WT has had a heavy impact on the army scene. With their leadership hinting a return in the future, only time will tell if we ever see another generation of the Water Troops. Do you think WT succeeded at delivering their message to the community? Would you like to see another generation of the army?
