Army World Cup: First Round Recap

Army World Cup: First Round Recap

The first round of battles has occurred between all participating armies, shuffling the standings around. Let us check out what has changed, as well as reach out to the leaders for a post-battle interview.

On January 27th and 28th, a total of four battles were scheduled to take place between eight armies for the Army World Cup. These battles are very crucial for the qualification towards the Group of Death that will take place the following week. Some armies, however, decided to save their energy for the remaining battles, as the Group Stages format allows for further comebacks in the standings regardless of a loss.

Day One

The opening battle saw the Void Troops versus the Crimson Sovereign, with VT having significant odds of winning. Despite the Crimsons’ best attempts, they were unable to carry on for the rest of the battle. The battle concluded at :21, following the forfeit of the CS leader. The Void Troops were able to gain 3 points by winning this battle, with the Crimson Sovereign still being at 0.

Shortly after, the Shadow Legionnaires and Fire Vikings’ battle took place. Unfortunately for the Vikings, their presence in the battle was short-lived as they logged off not being able to hit their desired number of troops. The Legionnaires earn themselves a quick 3 points that will be able to be beneficial for further tougher battles later in the week.

Club Penguin Army League reached out to both VT leader xDemon, and SL leader Thunder on their first win of the tournament and their further tactics.

With your army’s first win in the tournament and securing 3 points, how do we expect you go about the rest of the battles this week?

xDemon, VT leader: consecutive sweeps

Thunder, SL leader: Void Troops will be a difficult battle to pull off a victory or draw, we’re not worried for CS unless if our competent troops remember that is.

Do you have any words for the rest of your opponents this week?

xDemon, VT leader: good luck.

Thunder, SL leader: Gulp.

Day Two

The second day saw more action take place, as the Shreks faced the Romans. The Shreks already saw a decent performance in their qualifier battle vs Tsunamis, so they had quite the expectations for this battle. Regardless, the Romans brought their A-game, securing a large size advantage with rapid tactics, especially in rooms 2 and 3, giving them a clear 3-0 win.

The Scarlet Republic versus the Teutons also took place shortly before, with high expectations on the Teutons from their recent revival. Despite all, the Teutons weren’t able to show up for this battle due to unavailablity of troops due to the fact they are not well used to weekday battles yet.

This gave the Scarlet Republic a crucial 3 points that would make the rest of their journey this week much easier. For the Teutons, however, they will need caution for the rest of the battles to avoid being knocked out.

CPAL reached out to all of Znation, Image, and Justin, Roman, SR, and Teuton’s leaders, respectively, for an interview regarding their first battle.

With your army’s first win in the tournament and securing 3 points, how do we expect you go about the rest of the battles this week?

Znation, Romans leader: Romans is a pretty strong s/m army, and i personally believe that we are gonna get far into the tournament.

Image, SR leader: For the most part I think we did quite well even if our battle ended up getting cut short. While there’s definitely room for improvement on my end, I’m feeling a bit more confident headed into the rest of this week. (Shoutout to the rest of SR btw yall were on top of your game as usual ).

How do you plan to recover from the first battle’s loss, and can we expect Teutons to be more destructive in the next battles?

Justin, Teutons leader: We plan on recovering by locking in more on recruiting, hyping up our troops and coming back stronger.

Do you have any words for the rest of your opponents this week?

Znation, Romans leader: humbled by znation.

Justin, Teutons leader: Watch out.

Image, SR leader: burger.

With the first round out of the way, we are left with the rankings listed below.

These rankings show steady updates in group A, with not many changes. Although for the second group as of the first round, both the Scarlet Republic and Romans rise, with the Teutons falling short.

It will be interesting to see how these groups further develop in the rest of the week. Many expectations are put on the leading armies currently, as battles become tougher as time goes on. As of now, the Void Troops, Shadow Legionnaires, Scarlet Republic, and Romans are the first runners for the Group of Death. Will there be any further upsets in the tournament? Who do you think will be crowned champion?
